Metal Braces

Traditional metal braces are the most commonly used orthodontic treatment because they effectively correct a wide range of alignment and bite issues. Made from high-grade stainless steel, metal braces use brackets and archwires to gradually move teeth into proper position. Patients can also personalize their smile by choosing colored elastic bands (ligatures) to add a fun and unique touch.

Self-Ligating Braces

Traditional braces use elastic bands or metal ties to hold the archwire in place. Self-ligating braces, meaning “self-tying,” feature specialized brackets with built-in clips or sliding doors that secure the wire without the need for ligatures. Because they eliminate elastic ties, the brackets are often smaller and less noticeable. Self-ligating braces typically require fewer adjustments, which can mean shorter appointment times and, in some cases, reduced overall treatment duration.

Clear Braces

Clear braces use ceramic brackets that are either transparent or tooth-colored, allowing them to blend naturally with your enamel. The elastic ligatures can also be selected to match the bracket color or your natural tooth shade for a more discreet appearance.

Although clear brackets are aesthetically appealing, they may sometimes be slightly larger and more brittle than metal brackets. Because ceramic material can be more abrasive, clear braces are often recommended primarily for upper teeth.

Clear Aligners

Clear aligners consist of a series of custom-made, transparent trays that gradually move teeth into alignment. They are an excellent option for patients with mild to moderate orthodontic concerns.

One of the main advantages of clear aligners is convenience. Patients change to a new set of aligners at home according to their treatment schedule and can remove them while eating, brushing, and flossing. Their nearly invisible appearance makes them a popular choice for teens and adults seeking a discreet solution.

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces provide the benefits of traditional braces without the visible metal on the front of the teeth. Instead, the brackets and wires are placed on the back (lingual side) of the teeth, making them virtually invisible to others.

Lingual braces are just as effective as conventional braces and are worn for a similar length of time. They are often a great choice for individuals who participate in contact sports or play wind instruments, as they do not interfere with the front of the teeth. Additionally, they can be a suitable alternative for patients who are sensitive to plastic materials used in certain clear or removable orthodontic options.
